(From Ozark Funeral Home)Max (Mouse) Ralph Horton, age 88, of Jay, OK passed away Sunday evening, February 23, 2025. Max was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was born July 26, 1936 in Joplin, MO to the late Earl Jackson Horton Sr. and Jeanette Gertrude (Seamans) Horton.
On November 17, 1956 in Southwest City, MO Max married the love of his life Pauline Adeline Carpenter. Together they raised two wonderful children Daniel (Danny) Wade Horton of the home and Darleen Anne Holly (Doug) of Decatur, AR. Max was devoted to his family and enjoyed being a grandfather to his two grandsons, taking them on several trips over the years. He cherished his role as a great grandfather to five great grandchildren.
Max never knew a stranger and would make friends anywhere he went, his friendly personality and sense of humor will forever be remembered by his family. He enjoyed getting great bargains at local auctions, going to The Rio Grande Valley in the winter, and raising Angus cattle. He was an avid supporter of 4-H and FFA youth and part of the Delaware County Fair Board. Max taught RA’s and Junior boys at church.
Max spent several years working as a Welder’s Assistant on the pipeline and worked for McDonald Douglas in Tulsa, OK in the welding department.
He is preceded in death by parents Earl Jackson Horton Sr. and Jeanette Gertrude (Seamans) Horton, brothers, Earl Jackson (Jack) Horton Jr., Edward (Windy) Lee Horton, Ross Herman Horton, and Bobby Franklin Horton.
Mr. Horton is survived by his wife of 68 years Pauline; children, Daniel (Danny) Horton of the home, Darleen Anne Holly (Doug) of Decatur, AR; 2 grandsons, Joshua Levi Holly (Lindsey) Jay, OK; Ethan Andrew Holly (Katie) Fort Scott, KS; 5 great grandchildren, Jade Claire Holly, Case Levi Holly, Rinley Jean Holly, Stetson Glen Holly, and Truett Andrew Holly.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri, with Pastor Randy Sipes officiating. Burial will follow at Southwest City Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Doug Holly, Josh Holly, Ethan Holly, Wayne Holly, Stephen Holly and Dave Collingsworth with Jade Holly, Case Holly, Rinley Holly, Stetson Holly and Truett Holly serving as honorary. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Southwest City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or to Disabled American Veterans c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
