(From Lakin Funeral Home)James "Jim" Lewis Bertalotto, Jr. age 79, of Springdale, AR passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Regency Hospital in Springdale, AR. He was born in Monett, MO on Friday, December 14, 1945; son of Lewis Charles and Mae Mary (Conley) Bertalotto. He was a 1962 graduate of Pierce City High School.
Jim was lovingly known as "Sonny". He proudly served in the US Army Air Cav (1966-1969) in the Vietnam War where he was a Huey crew chief/mechanic and doorgunner for two tours.
He was discharged from the Army in May 1969, and met his wife, Linda Smith, shortly thereafter. They were married on Friday, September 12, 1969, in Chula Vista, CA. Jim and Linda spent 55 years enjoying life together. Jim was a meat cutter for various places and ended his career as the owner/operator of Jim's Butcher Shoppe in Miami, OK. He and Linda worked together at the Shoppe for over 20 years.
Jim was an avid crappie fisherman, Denver Bronco fan, and enjoyed watching Caitlin Clark play basketball in college and WNBA. He loved his family and cherished the time he had with his grandchildren. Jim loved his yearly Sibling Days when all his brother and sisters would get together to visit and reminisce. He was a member of the VFW Post 2952 in Springdale, AR where he volunteered through his wife. He wanted to help and support Veterans in any way he could. Jim and Linda took a 50th Anniversary history trip in 2019, visiting Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and Salem, MA; and was able to participate in an Honor Flight in 2022 with his son, Dan. Jim will be missed by many for his jokes, pranks, and fast smile.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Bertalotto of Springdale, AR; two children, Andrea (Jeff) Dudley of Bixby, OK, and Daniel (Mandy) Bertalotto of Fayetteville, AR ; five grandchildren, Josh and Maddie Dudley and Mary Kate, Caroline, and Jack Bertalotto; ten siblings, Barbara (Ken) Ellis of Pierce City, MO, Marjorie (Ben) Layton of Pierce City, MO, Janice (Leo) Schmidt of Monett, MO, Mary Lou (Harold) Lombard of Pierce City, MO, Jeannie (Ralph) Schmidt of Pierce City, MO, Beverly (Norman) Ozbun of Verona, MO, Geraldine (Don) Brattin of Aurora, Ron Bertalotto of Monett, MO, Linda Gail Bertalotto of Joplin, MO, Cindy (John) Witt of Pierce City, MO; 21 nephews; 18 nieces; 17 great-nephews; 21 great-nieces; and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mae Bertalotto and an infant son, David Michael Bertalotto.
A Prayer Service/Rosary will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City, MO on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Visitation will follow until 08:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City, MO on Saturday, February 8, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM with Father Matt Rehrauer officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Pierce City, MO.
Memorials may be made, in Jim's honor, to the VFW Post 2952 Springdale in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO.
