Janis Swan

Janis Sue (Waynick) Swan died on Thursday, December 25, 2025, (Christmas Day) at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She was born on July 8, 1949, to Andrew Bert Waynick and Wanda Louise (Byrd) Waynick at McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage, Missouri. Janis graduated from Carthage High School in 1967 and from Missouri Southern State University in 1972 with a degree in Education. She taught at Granby grade school for thirty years. 

On February 23, 2001, Janis married Chester Swan at the Carthage Courthouse; he passed away on February 28, 2022. Janis was an avid sports fan, above all the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. 







Janis is survived by two brothers, Mike Waynick of Carthage, Missouri, and Gary Waynick (Janis) of Maquoketa, Iowa; two nephews, Andrew Waynick (Hayley) of Leawood, Kansas, and Russell Waynick (Rita) of Carthage, Missouri; a niece, Kristie Wagner (Chris) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; five great nephews, Caleb Waynick, Franklin Waynick, Dean Waynick, Robbie Wagner, and Ronnie Wagner; and several cousins and family. 

Janis was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Rayma Waynick. 

Holy Rosary will be held for Janis at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. A memorial visitation will follow from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. 








All those in attendance are invited to the family meal following services at the Ulmer Funeral Home Community Room.
