(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Jerrel Emmitt Cook II died Dec. 21, 2025, at his home in Joplin, Missouri, surrounded by loved ones. He was born Dec. 26, 1944, to Jerrel Emmitt Cook and Laura Dora Naimen Cook in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He married Evelyn “Louise” Cook on Jan. 9, 1968, and together they shared more than 50 years of marriage. Side by side, they explored and experienced the world. His passion for prospecting became a shared adventure, creating lasting memories of discovery and companionship.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War while stationed remotely in Alaska. His service shaped a lifelong commitment to supporting fellow veterans. Cook would later work for many years at EaglePicher Technologies.
He hosted a weekly radio show for more than 20 years, reaching millions of listeners and using the platform to inform, encourage and advocate for veterans and their families. He was also a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and a Missouri Southern State College alum.

He is survived by three children, Shelly Johnson, Jerrel Cook III and Elizabeth Cook; his brother, Robert Watkins; son-in-law, Gaylon Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Mary Cook. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kandice Stephens, Augusta Johnson, Felicia Vaught, Riley Druley, Isaiah Cook, Elijah Cook, Jacklyn Cook, Ezra Cook, Ezekiel Cook, Nicholas Stephens, Alana Shaw, Emma Druley, Kenneth Druley, Leah Druley, Kolina Stephens, Monty Stephens, and Lilly Druley.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Cook and his wife, Louise Cook.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mercy Cancer Center or Souls Harbor.
