(From Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home)Gary Allen Russell, 71, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on March 10, 2026.
Gary was born on July 29, 1954, in LeMars, Iowa, to Robert Charles Russell and Carol Jane Russell. He spent his early years growing up in Iowa, where he later married Diane (Ruden) Russell. They began their life together there and lived in Iowa for seven years before starting a journey that would take them across the country.
Over the years they lived in Alaska for four years, Georgia for four years, Florida for twenty-eight years, Colorado for four years, and Idaho for one year before eventually settling in Carthage, Missouri, where they proudly made their home.
Gary enjoyed staying busy and took pride in the work he did. He had a natural ability to build, repair, and figure things out, approaching everything he took on with patience and determination. He believed in doing things well and took pride in seeing a job done right. His hardworking nature and dedication to his family were evident throughout his life.
Gary shared a devoted marriage with his wife, Diane. Together they built a life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering commitment, celebrating 50 years of marriage last June.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Carol Russell; his brother, Mark Russell; his sisters, Pam Hummel and Kim Russell; and his great-grandson, Oscar.
Gary is survived by his wife, Diane Russell, and their children: Trina Jordan, James Russell, Tracy Thompson, Sonja Lowe, Kara Edminson, and Rachell Edminson; his grandchildren: Logan, Destiny, Mackenzie, Dylan, Jayden, Aliyah, Micah, Luke, Gabe, and Allison; his great-granddaughter, Joslyn; and his sisters, Deb Frerichs and Dawn Miller.

A viewing will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 1505 W. Atlantic Street in Springfield, Missouri. Gary's Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Father Thomas Hufford officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 4528 W Division Street in Springfield, Missouri.
