Ricky “Rick” Wayne Jones, 44, of Joplin, Missouri passed away at Freeman Hospital on March 10, 2026. He was born to Richard and Priscilla (Lay) Jones on November 25, 1981, in Joplin, Mo. Richard and Priscilla brought him home to join his five bossy sisters who would take great pleasure in showing him the ways of the world. He was a fun, rambunctious boy who learned quickly how to hold his own and began a life of outrageous torment and side-splitting entertainment as a means of survival among his sisters.
Rick was an amateur photographer, always taking in the beauty around him. He especially enjoyed walkabouts, chasing stunning sunsets and foggy fields. He respected nature and practiced kindness over and above all else. He was an avid reader, infinitely curious about various teachings and practices. He was especially interested in Daoism, Buddhism and Philosophy in general. He was an incredible writer; his poetry was rooted in deep self-reflection. Most of all he was the greatest undiscovered stand-up comedian. His impressions were flawless, his timing impeccable.
He was a movie buff his entire life, he implemented Cinema Sundays, where he showed classic movies that were meant to encourage, inspire and entertain. He enjoyed exploring new places throughout the years, but he was always drawn back to his hometown where he re-rooted for good in 2017.
Rick attended Neosho High School procuring his diploma in 2000. These years sharpened his wit and expanded his audience. He was well known for his ability to make anyone laugh in any situation. (Appropriate or not!).
He worked with the developmentally disabled for several years doing in-home care. He most recently worked at the Lafayette House, an organization he dearly loved. He truly enjoyed his job and was so proud of the clients he got the privilege to work with.
He was proceeded in death by his both his parents; Richard and Priscilla Jones, one sister Robin Jones; his paternal grandparents; and Everett and Dorothy Jones; and his maternal grandparents Oscar and Dora Lay.
He is survived by his loyal, (sometimes) lovable cat Jacque, his four sisters; Paula (David) Papen of Neosho, Lisa (Chris) Carpenter of Carl Junction, Dora (Don) Rives of Jasper, Melissa Brown of Webb City, many nieces and nephews whom he taught to be ornery, several great nieces and great nephews (who will learn those ornery skills from those before them) and some very special friends whom he loved dearly.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Priscilla and Richard Jones, sister Robin Jones, paternal grandparents Dorothy and Everett Jones, maternal grandparents Dora and Oscar Lay.
Rick was not one to ask for help, but he gave it freely whenever he saw a need. Even in death his helping heart is touching the lives of many as an organ donor.
Please consider being an Organ Donor! What a gift!
