Dorothy Walton

Dorothy Walton, age 98 of Riverton, KS, passed away at 7:17 AM on Monday, May 4, 2026 at Westgate at Wildwood Ranch.

Dorothy was born on April 21, 1928 to the union of Albert Lincoln Kinkade and Bessie Jane (Morrision) Kinkade. She graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1946, and was a lifetime resident of the Galena/Riverton area other than a period of time where she lived in Kankakee, IL. She worked as a cook in the dietary department of Baxter Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1990, and was a member of the First Church of God in Miami, OK until its closure in the early 2020's. 






She enjoyed watching her birds, especially her hummingbirds, but was especially fond of caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was never happier than when she was able to rock them in her arms.

She was united in marriage with Roy Walton on October 11, 1951 in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1996.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bessie Kinkade; her sisters, Thelma Walker, Katy Spivey, Marguerite Evans, Betty Moore, Rayma Trombley, Frances Cooper, and Della McGuire; her brothers, Alfred Kinkade, Roy Kinkade, and Paul Kinkade.








Survivors include three daughters, Sonja Stricklin (husband, Bill) of Joplin, MO, Brenda Short of Baxter Springs, and Sandy Busch (husband, Brad) of Grove, OK; six grandchildren, Tonya, Ralph, Travis, Amy, Matt, and Tyler; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many loved ones.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. Pastors Brad and Misti Helton will officiate. Pallbearers serving will be Ralph Short, Travis Short, Matt Busch, Tyler Busch, Dale Wano, and Rich Kinkade. Burial will follow at Lowell Cemetery, rural Baxter Springs, KS.

Visitation hours will take place on prior to the service from 10-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
