Bill Howard

William Vinton “Bill” Howard, Jr. age 79, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 5:27 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born December 11, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, the son of William Vinton and Lotha Mae (Cole) Howard, Sr.

Bill was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri for two years. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He was the owner of Howard’s Conoco in Mt. Vernon and after selling it he worked for Sto’s Truck Stop in Mt. Vernon as a service attendant. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon and loved old cars especially Fords. He enjoyed drag racing and stock car racing.

Bill is survived by his brother Bob Howard and his wife, Charlotte, of Mt. Vernon; one niece, Chawn McCann and her husband, Joe of Sarcoxie, Missouri and one nephew, Bobby Howard and his wife, Tina of Mt. Vernon and their families.

His parents, Vinton and Lotha, and infant brother, John Knox Howard, preceded him in death.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. in funeral home.
