Mr. Norman Lester Davis, age 84, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018, at Freeman Hospital following an illness.
Norman entered this life on August 5, 1934, in Joplin, Missouri, one of six children born to the late Paul and Marie (Karch) Davis. On April 9, 1955, Norman was united in marriage to Norma Campbell and to this union four children were born. He worked for Lucky’s Bakery in San Leandro, California, and retired after nearly 40 years. Norman enjoyed the outdoors and loved to spend time fishing and gardening – both in his flower garden and vegetable garden. He also loved reading his Bible. Norman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Noah and James.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Davis, of Joplin; his children, Sarah Davis of Joplin, Chris Gwaltney of Joplin, Lisa Cook and husband, Jim, of Concord, California, and Norman Paul Davis and wife, Raylene, of Joplin; his granddaughter, Rebekah Drake, and husband, Bart, of Joplin; two great-grandsons, William and Gabriel; three siblings, Mary, Naomi and David; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Davis are 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2018, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Rev. Bobby Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. Those honoring is life by serving as pallbearers are Bill Lyscio and Bart Drake. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Association for the Blind in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
