Charlene Bickell

Charlene I. Bickell, age 87 of Neosho, entered into rest on February 7, 2022 at her home, following an extended illness. Charlene was born October 24, 1934 in Marston, Missouri. 

She worked at Forrest City Manufacturing in St. Louis as key punch operator, modeled clothes and shoes for four years. She managed a restaurant in Granite City, Illinois and was a homemaker. She had lived in Illinois for 40 years prior to moving to Arkansas and then to Neosho in 2005. 








Charlene enjoyed the outdoors, riding horses and breaking horses. She assisted in raising 53 foster children and served on the board of Children’s and Family Services as an advocate for foster parents. She served as president of AARP and was a recipient of the ‘Butterfly’ award for the most volunteer hours for hospice, volunteering 13 years and also volunteered in nursing homes. She taught Sunday school over 60 years, pre-school to adult classes; served as Sunday School Director, Vacation Bible School director and 20 years as youth leader and was an active member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. 

On March 13, 1954, Charlene and Georg F. Bickell, Sr. were married in St. Louis, Missouri and he survives. 

In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by four children, Judy (John) Merriman, George (Debbie) Bickell, Sr., Marilyn (Brian) Durham and Tracy (James; Hinz; grandchildren, Corey, Casey and Colby Merriman; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Linda) Ferrill and one sister, Betty (Richard) Martens. She is preceded in death by four sisters, Charlotte, Blanche, Almeda and Imelda; two brothers, Don Ferrill and Artie Ray Ferrill and her stepmother, Frances Ferrill.
