(From Daniel Funeral Home)Virginia Mae Potter, age 104, of Lamar, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022.
Virginia was born on December 9, 1917 to Willis and Sada (Williams) Dearing in Sheldon, Missouri. She attended several country schools, rode a horse to Milford High School for two years then moved to Lamar by herself to finish high school.
She graduated from Lamar High School in 1936. She attended cosmetology school in Kansas City and was a hairdresser until retiring at the age of 75.
Virginia married Laverne H. Potter on September 11, 1945 in Girard, Kansas. They were happily married for 38 years until his death on January 30, 1983.
Virginia enjoyed traveling, growing flowers, crocheting, reading, doing puzzles and playing with her grandkids. She was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church.
Survivors include children; Bruce Potter, Barb (Lonnie) Stilabower and Carol (Pat) Barr, all of Lamar, MO, grandchildren; Josh (Melissa) Shrout, Chris (Melissa) Shrout, Angie (Steve) Bailey, Heath Stilabower, Kim (Rile) Friend, Jeff (Lisa) Barr, Jon (Kaley) Barr, great-grandchildren; Anna Shrout, Jacob Shrout, Jackson Shrout, Lauren Shrout, Peyton Bailey, Travis Bailey, Tristen Stilabower, Natalia Canet, Ryder Friend, Rex Friend, Joe Barr, Gus Barr and great-great granddaughter, Madilyn Jo Stilabower, her brother, Jewell Dearing, sister-in-law, Dorothy Dearing, and son-in-law, David Shrout.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Laverne, her parents, a daughter, Ann Shrout and her brothers; George Dearing, Claude Dearing, Junior Dearing and Sterling Dearing.
The family would like to thank the staff of Maple Senior Living for the many years of kind and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 28, 2022 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Morehead Cemetery in Lamar, MO.
The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 a.m., until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Lamar United Methodist Church Children's Ministries in care of the funeral home.
