Stephen Langford

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Stephen Robert Langford went to heaven on February 11, 2022, following a long illness. Stephen was born in Springfield, Missouri on December 21, 1946. He was raised in Carthage and Joplin Missouri. He graduated from Joplin High School.

Stephen earned his degree in electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas. Later he returned to school and received his MBA through Missouri State University. Stephen worked at Cardinal Scale for over 40 years as a professional engineer and vice president of engineering services.

During this time, he obtained two patents. But his proudest achievement there was that he served as Chaplain for a national Weights and Measures conference for many years.

Stephen was raised in a loving home by his parents, Jack and Betty Langford who preceded him in death. It was this upbringing that led him to his deep faith in Christ. Through family vacations, he developed his love of nature and adventure as they camped, visited national parks and spent weekends with friends at Big Sugar Creek.

Stephen loved being outdoors, especially in the mountains. He backpacked solo in Denali National Park and twice went up Longs Peak in Colorado. He enjoyed anything with four wheels and a motor. He loved eating fried chicken and barbeque. He was an avid fisherman and canoer and kayaker. Some of his best days were spent fishing with his buddies, Silas and Ron or with his children. He loved adventure, especially traveling. He traveled to every state in the union except for Hawaii.

Steve married Cindy (Boyd) Langford on April 8, 1987. He enjoyed going on road trips with Cindy. His favorite destination was Rocky Mountain National Park.

Steve's most favorite things were his faith in God, reading the Bible, spending time with family and being outdoors.

Stephen leaves behind his wife Cindy, his sister Nancy (Brad) Baker, and his children: Matthew, Addison, Russell, and Brandon Langford and Kaitlin (Ryan) Morris. He is preceded in death by his daughter Kristin.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for Thursday, February 17, 10:30 a.m. at Christ's Community United Methodist Church. A private internment will be scheduled at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Christ's Community United Methodist Church or to Solace House.

Contributions may be sent in care of the mortuary.
