(From Bath-Naylor Funeral Home)Shirley Jean Simoncic (Russell), 82, of Frontenac, KS, passed away at 10:35 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at her home.
She was born July 26, 1939, in Fort Scott, KS, the daughter of Ernest and Emma (Wiley) Russell. She graduated from Fort Scott High School, and then graduated from the Kansas State Teacher’s College, now Pittsburg State University. During her time in college, she helped establish the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and worked briefly at the Western Insurance office in Pittsburg.
On June 23, 1962, she was united in marriage to her husband, Frank James Simoncic at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2017.
Shirley worked at the RCY (Residential Center for Youth), later known as KAW Valley, for approximately 15 years, until she retired.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS, as well as an alumnus of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Survivors include two sons, Rick and wife Jacque Simoncic of Frontenac, KS, and Ron Simoncic of Franklin, KS; six grandchildren, Jordan Simoncic, Victoria and husband Garrett McHargue, Marissa Simoncic, Caitlyn Simoncic, Hunter Simoncic, and Fischer Simoncic; and 1 great grandchild, Henry McHargue.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Emma Russell; husband, Frank Simoncic, and a brother Harold Russell.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial is set for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS, led by Father Josh Evans. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The Parish Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. before the mass, Thursday, March 3, 2022. The family requests memorials to be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Arrangements are made under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home and Crematory.
