(From Parker Mortuary)Carroll E. Simon, Jr., age 84, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Carroll, son of the late Carroll and Ida (Goodrich) Simon, was born on December 7, 1937 in Joplin. He was a lifelong Joplin area resident, working most of his life in trucking, first as a team driver with WR Grace and then as the owner/operator of his dump trucking business until retirement. Carroll was instrumental in helping build the foundations of Joplin with the countless loads he hauled.
On January 12, 1968, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Penny Young. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2010.
After working all day, he dedicated his evenings and weekends to his sons’ sporting events. Carroll happily spent summer at the ballparks, fall at the football fields, and winter at the gyms. He will be deeply missed and forever in the hearts of his family.
Survivors include his children, James Simon and wife, Liz, Terry Simon and wife, Kay, and Shawn Simon, all of Joplin, and Michelle Epperson and husband, Darrell, of Goodman; his brother, Jerry Simon, and wife, Jean, of Duenweg; grandchildren, Nick Simon, Kara Fields, Tiffany Willis, Kelly Yeager, Kylee Roe, Logan Simon, Kelsie Gomez, Ethan Epperson, and Dalton Epperson; 14 great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew, Kim Young and Doug Simon; and four other nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Hartgrove, and one great-grandson, Connor Simon.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with Reverend Bob Simon officiating. Burial will follow at Stone Cemetery, Diamond. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
