(From Derfelt Funeral Home)James Eugene Sherrod, 74, of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022.
James was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on March 27, 1947. He graduated from Ponca City High School and continued his education at Okmulgee Tech. He was married to Lutishey Gayle Nichols on June 20, 1965 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage.
James worked as a commercial artist and draftsman for City Oil in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri, College Press in Joplin, Missouri, Electron in Blackwell, Oklahoma and American Metals in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
In his spare time he enjoyed various hobbies, but he could often be found working on antique tractors and spending time with his grandkids. He was also actively involved in the Car Care ministry at College Heights Christian Church.
James is survived by his wife Lutishey Sherrod of Joplin, Missouri, daughter Joy Phelps and husband Don Phelps of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, son Jon Sherrod and wife Jennifer Sherrod of Joplin, Missouri, son Jay Sherrod and wife Amy Sherrod of Neodesha, Kansas, and brother Walter Sherrod of Newkirk, Oklahoma. James has six grandchildren; Stephanie Owen of Wichita, Kansas, Kristin Phelps of Kansas City, Missouri, Julie Sherrod of Joplin, Missouri, Leslie Phelps of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Erick Sherrod of Neodesha, Kansas, and Levi Sherrod of Joplin Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Hazel Sherrod of Newkirk, Oklahoma, sister Kay Harrison of Mulvane, Kansas, and daughter Jan Cude of Independence, Kansas.
A memorial visitation will be held in Joplin, Missouri at Park Plaza Christian Church, 3220 Indiana Avenue, on February 26 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to cancer research or Solace House of the Ozarks in Joplin, Missouri.
