(From Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home)Sharon “Ka” (Beard) Hethmon, 80, of Nokomis, died on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, surrounded by family at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Services were held on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis.
Mrs. Hethmon was born on March 13, 1941, in Cairo, to Eulene Troutman. She was one of three children. Mrs. Hethmon spent her childhood honing her artistic talent and cooking skills with her grandmother, which she passed down to her children and grandchildren.
She met Carl Hethmon while working at General Telephone in Carbondale. The couple married on April 28, 1967. They and their three children moved around Southern Illinois following Mr. Hethmon’s work. As their children grew older and started families of their own, the couple settled in Centralia.
Mrs. Hethmon loved learning her family history and spent many hours studying genealogy. She enjoyed fishing, music, and, if the occasion arose, arguing politics. Mrs. Hethmon created a welcoming and loving home for not only their children but also their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved spending time with them.
Mrs. Hethmon is survived by her children, Stacey DeJaynes of Nokomis, Lynn (Maureen) Hethmon of Anchor and Julia (John) Crowe of Nokomis; grandchildren, Timothy (Michell) DeJaynes of Tampa, FL, Kasie DeJaynes of Centralia, James (Sarah) Hethmon of Webb City, MO, Justin (Chelsea) DeJaynes of Irvington, Danielle McLeod of Bloomington, J’dah (Cyrus) Koger of Nokomis, Jessica (Jake) Thorndyke of Saybrook, Matthew (Brenann) Crowe of O’Fallon, Jonathan Hethmon of Colfax, Rachel McLeod of Gibson City, Lauren McLeod of Gibson City, Connor McLeod of Georgetown and Jorgia Crowe of Nokomis; great-grandchildren, Jake, Alivia and Elias DeJaynes, Kainen DeJaynes, Ryder, Carl and Geneva Koger, Mackenzie Ka and Bo Daryle Thorndyke, Lilian, Nolan, Lennon, Leighton and Layn Crowe, Alexandria McLeod and Kye and Jiana McLeod; and sibling, Charles Troutman of Ocean Shores, WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband; mother; sister, Julia (Judy) Warden formerly of Champaign; and loving pet-companion miniature dachshund, Evelyn.
