(From Parker Mortuary)Michael “Mike” Leroy Campbell, age 72, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at his home with family at his side.
Mike was born May 27, 1949 in Joplin, son of the late Jay Campbell Sr and Anna (Nelson) Campbell. He grew up in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School. He worked for Automatic Cigarette, before beginning his career with Modine Manufacturing. He worked for over 30 years with Modine, working in several different departments, and finally in the Shipping and Receiving area. He retired in 2007.
He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle of Joplin. He loved spending time with his family. His passion in life was fishing and he had fished in Canada, the Gulf, the Atlantic and in many lakes, rivers and strip pits. He loved sharing his fishing skills with whomever wanted to learn. When he came in with a stringer full, people would ask where he had caught all those fish, and his standard response was,“in the mouth!” He will be greatly missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he mourned the loss of a grandson, Cody Barbanera.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue (Nodine) Campbell of the home; and a blended family. Sons, Michael W. Campbell and wife Kayla of Joplin, Jeffrey Campbell of Carl Junction; daughter, Lennette Campbell of Jupiter, Florida; grandchildren, Brittany Campbell, Courtney Picton, Mykah Campbell, Sophia Campbell, and Tristen Plojing; 6 great-grandchildren. Michael Weaver and wife Tami, Mychelle Bray and husband Joe, Christina Jones and husband Drew, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Cynthia Emery of Miami, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; brother, Jay Campbell, Jr, sister, Linda Strickling and husband Mike all of Joplin; nieces, Nikki Purcell, Sherri Hughes, and a nephew, Brian Strickling.
Funeral service will be Monday, February 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Brian Strickling, Brandon Purcell, Michael Weaver, Jerry Casey, Kim Brookshire, and Brian Shofler serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday, February 20th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriner’s Hospital, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
