Shawn Newton

(From Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home)

Shawn “Fig” Newton, 51, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

Shawn was born on May 12, 1970, in Sedalia, Missouri, to William “Tim” and Linda (Erven) Newton.

Shawn attended Ash Grove schools from K-12 and attended Missouri Southern State College for a short time. He spent the majority of his working years in the construction industry, primarily concrete. He was a hard worker and took pride in what he did.

Shawn was always the life of the party. He loved to make people laugh. He was an avid fan of all kinds of music, especially rock and roll. He was a talented singer, songwriter and drummer. He was always drumming away on something whether it be his lap, the wall or the coffee table, and in the late1990s, he cut a rock/blues album with his band the Blues Alley Crawlers.

Shawn loved fishing and all things outdoors. But if there was one thing everyone knew about Shawn, it was how much he loved his Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals. Shawn was very easy to find on game days, always sitting in his chair cheering on his Chiefs and Cards.

Shawn is survived by his mother, Linda Newton; sister, Charity Elmer and husband Paul; nephews, Max and Mason; and half brothers, Cord Newton and Brad Darby (wife Mindy and kids Bailey, Bentley and Brooks); along with many other family members and friends. Shawn thought the world of his nephews and absolutely adored his mom.

Shawn was preceded in death by his father, William “Tim” Newton.

Celebration of Life services will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove, Missouri. A time of visitation will follow until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In honor of Shawn please wear your favorite Chiefs or Cardinals gear, or anything red.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Lost and Found, lostandfoundozarks.com or CoxHealth Foundation, coxhealthfoundation.com.
