Joseph Lee Haughawout of Joplin, MO, formerly of Dallas, TX, passed away at his home Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the age of 85 with his loving wife Kitty by his side.
Born in the back bedroom of his parents' home in south Joplin on May 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Charles Franklin and Gertrude Brookshire Haughawout.
Joe graduated from Joplin High School and then the University of Missouri, Columbia with a Chemical Engineering degree. Professionally, Joe was an inventor (life-long) and top salesman for USI Chemical, a division of National Distillers & Chemicals Co.
Personally, Joe loved and appreciated God's creation and passed his passion for all things outdoors on to his children. From coast to coast many summers were spent exploring the flora and fauna of mountains, prairies, beaches and deserts; in addition to the amenities of big city life from he and Kitty's homes in Chicago, IL, St. Louis, MO, Seattle, WA, and Dallas, TX.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Frances Torkilsen, Tucson, AZ, and Jane Farrell, California, and an infant son Adam Franklin Haughawout.
Left to cherish his memory is his precious wife of 50+ years, Kitty Ann Haughawout, and his children Candy Jo (Randy) Lepper, Webb City, MO, Stormy Ann (Kent) Thelen, Acworth, GA, and Rebel Daniel (Darlene Gillihan) of Parkville, MO. He also leaves behind a legacy of 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, his remaining JHS Class of '54 classmates and his treasured friends from Gringos, Webb City, MO.
A Celebration of Life luncheon in honor of Joe/Dad will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, at noon in the atrium of Carterville Christian Church, Carterville, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests condolences be made in Joe's name to Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center or a charity of your choice reminding you of memories with Joe and Kitty.
