(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Carl Strickland, age 74, passed away at 8:42 am, Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO following an illness.
Carl was born November 19, 1947 in Labette County, KS. His parents were Wayne and Betty (Brown) Strickland. Carl had lived here all of his life.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam war, serving from 1967 – 1969. He was of the Methodist faith. Carl was Past Commander and Sergeant of Arms in the Oswego VFW.
Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing with his kids and grandkids. He was a family man and enjoyed activities with both his immediate family and his extended family.
Carl was married to Cathy Wimp on June 11, 1976 in Oswego, KS. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Mike Strickland (wife, Nicki) Neosho, MO and Mark Strickland (wife, Mandy), Oswego; two sisters, Andra Gamba and Wanda Strickland, both of Oswego; and six grandchildren, Abby Strickland, Sydney Strickland, Braden Strickland, River Brill, Emma Brill, and Jack Brill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jason Strickland, his parents and his great-grandparents.
Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Oswego Cemetery, Oswego, KS. Eddie Williamson will officiate. Military rites will be observed by the Parsons VFW.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oswego High School Scholarship fund in care of the funeral home.
