(From Paul Thomas Funeral Home)Joyce Ellen Mathis of Broken Arrow, OK passed from this life Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. She was 79.
Joyce was born June 25, 1942 in Miami, OK to Theodore and Gertrude (Mitchell) Neal. She had lived in Broken Arrow for the past 2 years moving from Miami, OK. She had lived in Grove and Quapaw, OK.
Joyce graduated from Quapaw High School class of 1960 and Draughon School of Business in Kansas City. She had worked as an Executive Assistant for Integris Grove Hospital, a transcriptionist and Executive Assistant for St. John’s Medical Center in Joplin, MO and at Quapaw Elementary School as a secretary. She was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church in Miami, OK.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Wylie Eugene Mathis May 12, 2005, her parents, 4 brothers, Robert Neal, Bill Neal, Lloyd Neal and Dale Neal and 1 sister, Janice Low.
Survivors include 2 sons, Gary Mathis and wife Pam of Quapaw, OK, Gregg Mathis of Forsyth, MO, 1 sister, Judy McReynolds of Broken Arrow, OK, 2 grandchildren, Megan Kelley and Jared Mathis and wife Stephanie and 5 great grandchildren, Tyler Mathis, Wyatt Mathis, Connor Kelley, McKenzie Mathis and Weston Mathis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Quapaw, OK. Gregg Mathis will officiate. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. Brad Neal, Derrick Neal, Scott Perry, Jared Mathis, Bryan Low and Jerry Lee Neal will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.
