Stan Lankford

Stanley “Stan” Eugene Lankford, age 72, of Seneca, Missouri, passed away at 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born October 31, 1950, in Joplin, the son of the late Beecher Eugene and Alice Elizabeth (Stark) Lankford. 

Stan was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Seneca High School. On December 18, 1998, he married Janice “Jan” Sue Smith and she preceded him in death on November 27, 2011.








Stan retired from the National Guard in 1996 after 21 years of service. He was a member of the 203rd Combat Engineers and served in Panama, Honduras, and Cost Rica. His mission was predominantly building roads and schools, working as a construction supervisor. He also retired from Talbot Wire where he worked as a tool and die maker for 45 years. 

Stan was a proud member of the Patriot Guard and was honored to participate in their services. He loved to talk and tell stories to those who would listen and enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the various functions he attended during the holidays. His favorite pastimes were riding his Harley and fishing. Stan was a member and Deacon at Journey Church in Joplin.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his son, Tyler Lankford and fiancé, Piper; one brother, Tom Lankford and his wife, Marie; and one sister, Mary Lynne Crowder, all of Seneca; one grandson, Kane Lankford; two granddaughters, Gabby and Christian Howerton; three, stepsisters, Carolyn Jones of Henderson, Nevada, Linda (Marion) Murphy of Ogden, Utah, Marsha Lopez of Duenweg, Missouri; stepfather, Glen Welch; stepbrother Glen Welch Jr.; stepbrother-in-law, Wayne Jones; and stepdaughter Hillary Howerton; the mother of his children, Karen Clark of Goodman, Missouri; and numerous family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the Journey Church, at 301 S. McKinley Ave. in Joplin. Interment will follow with full military honors at Thompson Grove Cemetery in Seneca. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho.
