(From Parker Mortuary)Dolores E. Pennel, age 98, Joplin, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Spring River Christian Village.
Dolores was born March 6, 1924 in Monett, Missouri, daughter of the late Claude Stubblefield and Jayne (Varner) Stubblefield. She grew up in Monett and graduated from Monett High School.
On March 4, 1944 she married John Chester “Chet” Pennel in Aurora, and the couple moved to Joplin in 1952.
She worked as office manager for Dr. E.O. Martin for several years and then at Oak Hill Hospital for 17 years working on insurance for the hospital. She was a longtime member of Connor Avenue Baptist Church and then Joplin Heights Baptist Church. She was an active member and enjoyed volunteering for different projects with the church.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Chet Pennel who passed on June 9, 2013, and two daughters-in-law, Deneise (Crosswhite) Pennel, and Johnnie (Cook) Pennel.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Roger I. Pennel and wife Angela of Warrensburg, Missouri; daughter, Donna Mitchell of Joplin; six grandchildren, Chad Pennel and wife Kim of Frisco, Texas, Dr. Cara Pennel and husband Joe Wiard of Galveston, Texas, Joshua Pennel and wife Liz of Buffalo, New York, Adam Pennel and wife Laylan of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Jennifer Harryman and husband Ryan of Madisonville, Louisiana, and Austin Mitchell and wife Kira of Joplin; great-grandchildren, Jake Pennel, Hunter Pennel, Taylor Pennel, Madeline Pennel, Theodor Pennel, Marlowe Pennel, Ian Harryman, Arian Harryman, Tyra Mitchell, Kailey Mitchell, and Kinsley Mitchell.
Funeral service will be Friday, May 13, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Tim Summers officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Chad Pennel, Josh Pennel, Adam Pennel, Ryan Harryman, Austin Mitchell, and Ian Harryman serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Joplin Heights Baptist Church in care of Parker Mortuary.
