Beverly Hasselbring

(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Beverly Jean Welton was born February 14, 1932, in Wentworth, Missouri, to Lloyd and Vena Welton, and passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023, at Good Shepherd Care Community in Concordia, Missouri.

Beverly grew up in Sarcoxie and graduated from Sarcoxie High School as salutatorian of her class.

On September 21, 1951, Beverly married high school sweetheart Virgil Hasselbring in Sarcoxie.

Virgil entered the USAF Security Service that same year and in 1953 was stationed in Alaska. Beverly worked at First National Bank of Sarcoxie, and then joined him in Alaska in 1953. She worked as a bookkeeper for a bank in Alaska until their first child, Britt, was born.

After Alaska, the USAF took the Hasselbrings to California until 1955, when they returned to Sarcoxie. Their second son, Chris, was born in 1956.

Beverly raised her two sons, worked on the family dairy farm, and when her sons were in high school, she worked as the Sarcoxie City Clerk.

In 1974, Beverly and Virgil retired from dairy farming. Beverly continued to work for the City of Sarcoxie and in 2002 they moved to Concordia, Missouri, to be near their son, Britt, and his family.

Beverly had many interests. She and Virgil would square dance up to three times a week and loved traveling to other towns for dances. They enjoyed playing cards; Beverly was an expert at pitch. She also enjoyed volunteering in the gift shop at a Joplin hospital and for many years she volunteered as a member of the Alter Guild for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concordia.

Beverly was known for her beautiful music on the organ and piano. She played for weddings, funerals, church services, and other special events. Church in Sarcoxie did not start on Sundays until Beverly arrived to play the organ, which she did for over 40 years. Dozens of children benefitted from her piano lessons throughout the years.

After settling in Concordia, Beverly began playing organ for the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, the First Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma, and surrounding areas as needed.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Virgil, of Concordia; sons Britt Neal (Patty) of Concordia, and Chris Allen (Pamela) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; grandchildren Blake Hasselbring and his wife Kelsey and their children Hugh and Lyda; Cody Hasselbring and his wife Delaney; Adam Russell and his wife Angelica and their three children Ashton, Austin, and Abigail; and Angie Schuber and her husband Daman and their four children Isabella, Asa, Addis, and Mia; nieces Marva Moore and Karen Diltz and their families.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 10 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sarcoxie, Missouri, with Pastor Gary Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Sarcoxie.
