(From Simpson Funeral Home)Margaret Louise Townsend, age 96 passed away May 19, 2023 at Wildwood Assisted Living. She was born July 1, 1926 in Carl Junction, MO to Freedas and Mable Barnard. She lived in the Joplin area throughout her life.
On September 12, 1948, she married Ellis Ray Townsend of Joplin. They built their home in 1955 and lived there until Ray’s passing in May 2022.
Following retirement, they enjoyed attending auctions and traveling on group bus tours. Ray and Louise shared 73 years together.
Louise attended Carl Junction High School. She played the snare drum in the all girl Drum Corp. She shared her musical talents with her two grandsons who also played in their drum line. Louise worked as a secretary at Area Agency on Aging and Missouri Southern State University.
Family was very important to Louise and she enjoyed planning holiday gatherings. Her hobbies included making baskets, flower gardening and collecting garden rabbit statues.
Louise is survived by her daughter Gloria and husband, Roger of Joplin; grandsons Cameron and wife Taylor of Neosho, MO; and Brandon of Oklahoma City, OK.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, May 25th from 6-8 pm at Park Plaza Christian Church. Graveside services will be held Friday, May 26th at 11 am at the Carl Junction Cemetery. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Joplin Humane Society.
