(From Parker Mortuary)Peggy L. Brown, age 96, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Springfield, MO. Peggy was born in Joplin, MO on November 5, 1926, to Charles R. and Mildred P. (Serviss) Jackson.
Peggy graduated from Joplin High School in 1944. On July 6, 1947, she married Paul Edward Brown in her family home.
During her 90 years in Joplin, she was a member of Club 44, served as President of the adult board of Joplin Eagles Nest, and is a member of Chapter GA of P.E.O.
She was a member of the Oakland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she and Paul were active in the chancel choir and served as sponsors of the Christian Youth Fellowship. She and Paul moved to Springfield in 2017.
As an avid sports fan, she was a member of the Missouri Southern Lionbackers, loved the Arkansas Razorbacks, and played golf for 40 years at Briarbrook Golf and Country Club, serving as president of the Women’s Golf Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Betty J. Leib. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Sally Jenkins (David) of Springfield; two grandchildren, Melissa Jenkins, of Springfield, and Chad Jenkins (Shellie) of Broken Arrow, OK; four great grandchildren, Ian Holland, Kendyn Jenkins, Kasyn Jenkins, and Savanna Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with family receiving friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 PM at the mortuary, with The Reverend Jody Furnas-Wright officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Peggy to Cottey College or to the Joplin Humane Society and may be entrusted to the mortuary at 1502 S. Joplin Ave, Joplin, MO 64804.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
