(From Parker Mortuary)Alice Marie Hickman Dixon, age 88, formerly of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska following an unexpected illness.
Alice was born October 12, 1934 in Welch, Oklahoma to the late Theodore Clair Hickman and Mabel May Ellsworth Hickman. She graduated with the class of 1952 in Bluejacket, Oklahoma. She lived a short time in Tulsa and Chicago before coming to Joplin where she lived most of her life. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church of Joplin.
Alice was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. On May 25, 1952, Alice married Joseph E. Dixon in Vinita, Oklahoma. They have 2 daughters, Janet Ruiz of Omaha, Nebraska and Julie Brown of Galena, Kansas. Additionally, there are 5 grandchildren, Jason Ruiz, Becci Sutton, Mellie Ruiz, Justin Brown and Jared Brown; 8 great-grandchildren, Connor, Aniya, Mason, Jolene, Zoe, Sadie, Jace and Levi. She is also survived by a sister, Rama Jean Covey of Miami, Oklahoma.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph; 2 sisters, Clara Belle Hickman and Shirley Darlene Hickman and 2 great-grandchildren, Baby Ruiz and Christian.
Graveside services are planned for Friday, May 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, Oklahoma. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Parker Mortuary Chapel.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
