(From Ozark Funeral Home)David Barnard Walter, 86, of Delaware County, OK, passed away on May 21, 2023. He passed away in Joplin, MO due to natural causes. Dave was born in Wilmington, DE to Iva Thompson and Townsend Walter.
At the age of 8, he moved to Pennsylvania where he grew up with his sisters, Sally Walter and Judy Walter. Some of his fondest memories of his childhood centered around 4-H, which is why he later encouraged his children to participate in 4-H as well.
He graduated from Oxford High School in 1954 and went on to graduate with a degree in Dairy Sciences from Pennsylvania State University. He put that to good use and stated that his favorite job in his life was being a dairy farmer. He married Ella (Cindy) Worrell January 29, 1960 and they went on to many adventures together including having 5 children and moving across the country to fulfill his dream of having his own dairy farm.
He is survived by his sister Judy Walter Heald of Kennett Square, PA and his sons Peter (Leanna) Walter, of Anderson, MO, Michael Walter of Anderson, MO, Matthew (Caitlin) Walter of Wyandotte, OK, and his daughters Jennifer (Kelly) Gresham of Tulsa, OK and Rachel Walter of Afton, OK. He also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Nathaniel (Keisha) Walter with their children Heath, Mikaela, and Alaina, Brandon Annis, Ethan Walter, Avery Walter, Raven (Levi) Carey, Destiny, Eli, Adrian, Ella, Summer, and Jamison.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Cindy Walter and his sisters Sally Walter Moore, Patti Smith, and Anne Goffredo.
A memorial service will be held in Tiff City, MO on June 10th at 2:00 in the Community Center. Please come share your memories as we hold Dave in the Light. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you consider a donation to a charity of your choice or plant a tree in his memory.
