(From Memorial Funeral Home)William Donald "Gilp" Gilpin, age 89, of Columbia, peacefully passed away on February 5, 2024. A one-hour visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM, with the funeral service to immediately follow. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born to William Thomas and Mabel Virginia (Forsee) Gilpin on January 25, 1935; Don was raised by his grandparents Roy and Edna Forsee.
On June 3, 1955, he married Barbara Rice at Little Bonne Femme Church. He was a proud graduate of Hickman High School and went on to work for the City of Columbia's Water and Light Department for 41 years. After retirement, Don drove for Joe Machens Ford and enjoyed all of the people he met. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include a son, Don (Mary) Gilpin of Owasso, Oklahoma; a daughter, Julie Williams of Columbia; four grandchildren: Talia and Jeremy Williams of Columbia, Bill (Kristi) Gilpin of St. Elizabeth, Missouri, and Lauren Gilpin of Webb City, Missouri; six great-grandchildren: Ty & Averi Gilpin, Zaniah & Elinah Williams, Nalii Cowherd and Elijah Dodson; a sister, Mary Ellen Fox, as well as a loving extended family.
