Colleen Smith

Colleen Lynne McThompson Smith, born on November 26, 1944, in Duluth, MN to William Franklin McThompson and Winnifred Frances Buresh (McThompson), passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024, in Joplin Missouri. She resided in Granby Missouri. A proud graduate of North Kansas City High School, Class of 1963, Colleen dedicated her career to working at Leggett and Platt in Carthage, Missouri, and later at Wetmore Printing Company in Houston, Texas, until her retirement in 2011.


Colleen was known for her infectious love of sports, particularly baseball and football. She loved The Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals.. She loved her football teams the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, Her favorite Baseball Players were Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris. She enjoyed cooking, and loved Mexican and Italian Food. 








A devoted mom, her life revolved around her two beloved sons, David Sollenberger and William Sollenberger, both residing in Granby, MO. 

She is also survived by her three brothers, Dennis (Diane) McThompson, Terry (Peggy) McThompson, and Larry (Monique) McThompson, as well as her two sisters, Cora McThompson and Patricia McThompson Hayes. Colleen cherished her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces and many cousins.. She was preceded in death by her Father William Franklin McThompson Mother Winnifred Frances Buresh Brother Bruce William McThompson Sister Kathryn McThompson Maule Niece Shawna Hardenberger Great Nephew Collin Hardenberger and her McThompson and Buresh Grandparents.

Colleen’s warm and loving nature made her a friend to all. She was a gifted storyteller who loved to laugh and spread joy wherever she went. She always Showed Love, Compassion, and Kindness towards others, it truly reflected her essence and was a guiding principle in her interactions with those around her. She loved her all her family and many friends.. She was so happy to reconnect with family and friends she hadn’t seen in years.. She loved them all.








A lifelong Methodist, she streamed her home church online she attended growing up, She loved Avondale United Methodist Church in Kansas City Missouri (Avondale), Colleen found great joy in her favorite television shows like Seinfeld and her favorite movies, including The Hangover movies and Just Go With It. She loved Country Music with a passion. Houston, Texas, Kansas City Missouri and San Diego Missouri held a special place in her heart, making it her favorite places..

Colleen's legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she touched. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered and loved by her family and friends.
