(From Parker Mortuary)Rodney J. Holmgren, aged 87, passed away on October 20, 2024, in Joplin, MO. He was born on August 21, 1937, in Webb City, MO. He was a man of great integrity, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones.
Rodney's life was a testament to the value of hard work and the importance of family. He shared a beautiful and fulfilling life with his beloved wife, Louise Holmgren. Together, they raised a family that included three daughters: Debbie Van Ostran (Steve), Jacki Jones (Nathan), and Peggy Henderson (David). He was a proud grandfather to Rodney, Peter, and Paige Van Ostran, whose achievements and adventures brought him immense joy.
Rodney was known for his skillful hands and creative mind, especially when it came to his passion for fishing and rebuilding old fishing rods. His craftsmanship was only matched by his generosity, as he often helped others without seeking recognition. His friends will fondly remember their countless hours spent over coffee, where laughter and stories were shared.
Rodney's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of kindness, humility, and the joy of life's simple pleasures. His presence was a source of stability and comfort, and his guidance will continue to influence his family for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Helen Holmgren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Thornhill - Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Mo. with burial to follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Those who are honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Rodney Van Ostran, Peter Van Ostran, Don Scott, Terry Craig, J.P. Williams, and Don Kannable. Honorary Pallbearers are Pete Crawford and Randy Smith. The family invites friends for a time of visitation on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
