Don Meier

Donald Frederick Meier, age 88, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.

Don was born May 11, 1936, in Brazilton, Kansas, to the union of Martin and Alma (Monseese) Meier. He attended and graduated from Lutheran High School in Seward, NE in 1954. 

After graduating he moved to Pittsburg, Kansas and attended Pittsburg State University where he graduated in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. 








While attending PSU, he was a part of the ROTC unit and later joined the United States Army. He served 6 months Active Duty in New Orleans and then moved back to Joplin where he served in the Reserves for over 30 years. Don later worked as the unit coordinator at the Joplin Army Reserve Center on north main, retiring in 1999. 

He married Connie Hill Mauller in Joplin in 1987. Together they were blessed with 37 years of marriage before his passing. Don was a loyal member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church for 70 years. He enjoyed raising cows on his farm, traveling the countryside with Connie, serving in the military, and trading stocks.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Meier and David Meier.

Don is survived by his wife, Connie Meier, of the home; four children, Brandy Horn and husband, Greg, Steven Meier and wife, Tori, Debbie Dorsey, and Larry Mauller and wife, Robin; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ken Meier and wife, Brenda; and one sister, Kathy Mathieu.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made out to Immanuel Lutheran Church.








Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. with pastor Chris Ramstad officiating.

Interment to follow at Hornet Cemetery with Rob Rea, Mitchell Mauller, Perry Davis, Sam Meier, Terry Krug, and Larry Mauller serving as pallbearers.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
