(From Clark Funeral Home)Phyllis Earline Thornton , 79, of Newton County, Missouri, passed away on October 24, 2024. She was born on September 20, 1945, in Jasper County, Missouri to Olis and Ruby Barker. Phyllis married George R. Thornton on September 20, 1963, who survives her. She worked as an office manager for Ozark Homes, where she served for many years until her retirement.
Phyllis loved camping, finding a good deal at the flea market, even if she had five of that item, and spending time with her family on any occasion.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda (James) Scott and Rebecca (Jim) Cahalan, her son, George (Chris) Thornton, her brother Olis (Beverly) Barker Jr., eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Olis and Ruby Barker; three sisters, Helen Anderson, Peggy Mullins, and Carol Scribner; and two brothers, Arthur Barker and Earl Barker.
An open viewing will be on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at New Salem Cemetery.
