(From Parker Mortuary)Reverend Scott William Teaford passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of October 11, 2024, with his loving daughter, Ann Louise Teaford, by his side.
Born on May 23, 1939, in Darke County, Ohio, Scott grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from high school in 1957. He married his first wife, Kathryn Martin Cox of Beckley, West Virginia, in 1959.
After earning a bachelor’s degree from Johnson Bible College, Scott was ordained as a minister in the Christian Church. He later pursued a Master of Divinity at Lincoln Bible Seminary, specializing in Greek and Hebrew early Christian texts.
In August 1969, Scott moved his young family to Joplin, Missouri, where he began teaching philosophy, poetry, history, and language at Ozark Bible College. Unusually for his generation, Scott’s career spanned several professions. Though he started as a small-town preacher and found his true calling as a college professor, he took on other jobs to support his family. For 15 years, he served as the director of communications at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. In the early 1990s, Scott returned to ministry, this time as an ordained minister with the Disciples of Christ. He met his second wife, Cheryl Lynne Ashburn of Joplin, Missouri, in Sunday school, and they married in October 1983. Lynne was the love of his life, and they shared 40 wonderful years together. Scott concluded his career as the director of senior citizen centers in Carthage and Neosho.
Survivors include his son, Chad Teaford (Susan) of Louisville, KY and Ann Louise Teaford of Joplin; grandchildren, Kate Rainey of St. Louis, Jack Wesley of Joplin, Cora Lynne Wesley of Columbia, MO, Kyle Evans of Taiwan, and Neal Evans of Louisville, KY; sisters, Nian, and Kandee both of OH, and a brother, Jon Teaford (Chris) of OH; several nieces and nephews.
