(From Parker Mortuary)
Addam Joseph Mayfield (Mad Max) entered the Halls of Valhalla on May 12, 2018. ͞Mad Max͟ came into this world with high octane fuel and NOS attached to his Hot Wheels Three-Wheeler on May 31, 1978 in Joplin, MO.
The wild brown-eyed wanderer always made sure to keep everyone guessing, on their toes and DFS knocking on our parents’ door. In spite of his antics, his big brother made sure he survived his childhood. He loved fast cars and driving fast, but hated working on them because of his big hands. Despite being a man of few words, he fancied himself a cat whisperer͟ and bragged about speaking Catonese, Meow. He loved Johnny Cash, Weird Al, Rap and Bluegrass. He would do anything off-the-wall to illicit reactions from those around him. He channeled his alter-ego as a performer dancing in his boxers in the Living Room. He loved computer games, strategy games, and role-playing games and would get lost for hours in other worlds.
On May 12, 2000 he united with Cheryl Anderson in holy insanity and thus began their journey through the joys of parenting with the birth of their first, Mercedes, on December 26th, 2000. Two years later on September 30th Serenity (Rinnies) was born. The Third Musketeer, Arianna, joined the troupe on April 15th to commemorate Tax Day.
He became a Deputy Sheriff for Jasper County working in the jail and running Transport for several years, a job that he enjoyed (because he got to drive a lot), but also hated (because the inmates would not stop talking). Addam, like his father and uncle before him, was also an exceptional mechanic, working at European Motors and other places. He also drove big rig wreckers and long-haul trucks.
A self-proclaimed mercenary and HILARIOUS soul with a big heart and gentle spirit, he roamed where he wanted, knowing no limits or boundaries. Mad Max had a wicked sense of humor and would do things like shake up the neighborhood by letting them see a 6ft. 7in. tall man take his oldest daughter for a walk in her stroller in a woman’s sundress. He loved taking extended porcelain cruises͟ in order to read about his two favorite history subjects: World War II and Vietnam.
He is survived by three daughters: Mercedes, Serenity and Arianna Mayfield; his mother Cheryl Hadley (and stepfather David Hadley); two brothers and three sisters: Aaron Mayfield (and his wife April German), Adina Hadley, Byron Mayfield, Ashley Benecke and Amber Claymore; one niece, Averie Hadley; and other surrogate children who were near and dear to his heart, Chloe Bacal, Trista and Ben Sherrill; a fiancé, Jacey Thompson; and many friends.
Addam was preceded in death by his father, Keith Mayfield; and grandparents, Sgt. Joe Sr. and Wilma Mayfield, and Patsy Ann and Raymond Barr.
Visitation is scheduled at Parker Mortuary for Friday night at 6:00 pm. Memorial services will be at 1:30pm on Saturday, with graveside services to follow at Granby Memorial Cemetery. Friends and family will be invited to attend a gathering afterwards.
