Mary Johnson

Mary Helen Johnson, age 88, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018.

Mary was born in Joplin, Missouri, on February 6, 1930, the daughter of the late Clarence C. Wright and Gertrude Gross Wright. She attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Joplin Junior College. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church.

Mary retired in 1987 from the Missouri Department of Revenue after thirty years of service. She was a former member of the Missouri Bowling Association and Joplin Women’s Club and she was an avid bridge player.

On April 15, 1955, she was united in marriage to William R. “Bill” Johnson, II, and he preceded her in death in 2010. Mary was also preceded in death by a son, William R. “Bob” Johnson, III; and two brothers, James C. Wright and Leo J. Wright.

Survivors include her son, Gregory A. Johnson, of Joplin, Missouri; her daughter-in-law, Dora Johnson, of Carl Junction, Missouri; grandchildren, Stephanie Lantz, Wendy Vickers, Shannon Johnson, Tisha Anderson, Mary Ann Franklin and Jaime Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass for Mrs. Johnson is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 4, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with visitation following until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in care of the mortuary.
