June Sowder, 88, Joplin, MO, passed away May 18, 2018 after a short illness.
She was born May 28, 1929 in Picher, OK to David and Ruth (Hayworth) Whitehead. June spent most of her life in this area. She was a homemaker, who loved to sew, quilt, crochet, and read. June was a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church in Joplin.
She married Jess Newton Sowder, Jr. on Nov. 23, 1963 in Neosho, MO; he preceded her in death on July 13, 2014. June is survived by two children: Jill Williams and husband, Ronnie and James Sowder; two siblings: David Lee Whitehead and Barbara Underwood and husband, Bob; three grandchildren: Jessica Wilson, Mikalah Williams, and Devon Lee Sowder; and four great grandchildren: Emma Williams, Connor Mitchell, Kennedi Wilson, and Lincoln Wilson.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 am Thurs. May 24 at Hazel Green Cemetery, Boulder City, MO, with Rev. Charles Burnett officiating.
