Robert (Goose) Eugene McGowen of Joplin, MO passed from this life Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his home. He was 83.

Goose was born February 7, 1935 in Poplar Bluff, MO to Raleigh and Vada (Humphries) McGowen. He had lived in Picher, OK for many years before moving to Tuscaloosa, AL and then returning to Joplin, MO after retiring. He served in the Army in the Korean War and worked for B.F.Goodrich and was a member of the Nazarene Church.

Goose was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Elvis McGowen and Wesley McGowen and his sister Barbara Pugh.

Goose married Stella Jean (Hankins) McGowen and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include 2 sons Dennis McGowen and wife Kristi of Joplin, MO and Mark McGowen of Joplin, Mo, his brother Richard (Dick) McGowen, 5 grandchildren Payton Hoffner, Chanci McGowen, Chelsie, Emma and Addison McGowen and 1 great grandchild Hadley Jewel Hoffner.

Funeral Services will be Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami. Rev. Geoff Buffalo will officiate. Dennis McGowen, Mark McGowen, Adam Hoffner, Allan Wilkerson, Dick McGowen and Don Swadley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Davidson, Larry Heatherly, Tom Houston, Jack Abernathy, Glenn McKinney and Steve Mounce. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 147 Funeral Detail. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel.
