Mary E. Alexander, age 85 of Galena passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Joplin Gardens, Joplin MO where she had resided for the past 13 months.
Mary was born April 16, 1933 in Carl Junction, MO to the union of Roscoe Swindell and Birdie May Kenyon.
She resided in the Galena area most of her life. She worked outside the home for many years at various occupations, working many years in the optometry field before retirement. She enjoyed going to garage sales, bingo, the casino, crafting and sewing quilt tops.
Mary was united in marriage to Warren E Alexander on June 29, 1948 in Miami, OK. He preceded her in death April 8, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Russell, E Alexander and son-in-law Jody L Burgess.
Surviving is one son Michael Alexander (wife, Linda) Groveland, FL; two daughters, Jackie Young (husband, Bobby) Mascotte, FL, and Tina Burgess, Joplin; six grandchildren, Amy Jones (husband, Brian), Angela Young, Kyle Burgess (wife, Kyndra) Kraig Burgess (wife, Ashlie), Richard “Jake” Alexander (wife, Pam, and Kayla Burgess; ten great-grandchildren, Joshua, Leighton, Baylee, Elle, Alexandria, Zane, Jett, Wren, Tanner and Opal; one great-great grandson, Alexander; and one brother, Bill Swindell (wife, Elsa), Joplin, MO.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS officiating by Fred Lane.
Pallbearers will be Mike Alexander, Bobby Young, Kyle Burgess, Kraig Burgess, Jake Alexander, and Kameron Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
