(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)
Mary Lucille Wilcox, formerly of Joplin, went home to be with her Lord on May 18, 2018.
Mary was born August 7, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Indiana, to Clarence Earl and Sylvia Ruth (Fuhrer) Davidson. She graduated from 8th grade in Middletown, Ohio. She came to Missouri about 1948 with her parents and grandparents. She got a job working at the Conner Hotel and would ride the bus from Main St. all the way to Schifferdecker and back. Mary met Murray Wilcox while riding that bus. They were married in Joplin on April 10, 1949. They moved to Atlas in 1957, after their second child was born. Mary and Murray raised tropical fish and Bassett Hounds. Mary was involved with 4-H, had sewing classes and had a real knack for doing artificial flower arrangements. Mary and Murray enjoyed playing Canasta and Bridge with friends. Her favorite flowers were peonies and roses. She entered a nursing home in 2013 at Carthage Health and Rehabilitation. Mary was very much into playing Bingo. Do not interrupt her when she has a game going.
Mary leaves behind a daughter; Dona Cupp of Carterville, Mo., two sons; Robert Wilcox (Phyllis) of Monett, Mo., Dwain Wilcox (Michaell) of Joplin, two sisters; Nancy Langworthy of Ohio and Inez Sue Stacy of Oregon, seven grandchildren, Christopher Cupp (Tammie), Adam Cupp, Jacey Thompson, John Wilcox (Ashley), Samantha Wilcox, Danielle Nichols (Tadd), Kaitlin Wilcox, three step-grandchildren; Aaron Snearly, Amanda Snearly and Adam Snearly, and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way. Those preceding her in death are her husband, Murray Wilcox, who passed on December 12, 1983, her parents and a sister, Amy Gillis, who passed in 2004.
Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Sterling Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
