John Mason Atwood, age 72, Joplin, Missouri, went to be with our Lord Jesus, Sunday, May 27, 2018.
He was born on November 28, 1945 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Robert Atwood and Myrtle Lugene (Bliss) Stoner. He has been a resident of Joplin for thirty-seven years.
John proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the navy, John worked for 33 years at TEI Engineering. John was a faithful member of The Sheep Shed church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Margaret Kershner and three brothers, Robert E. Atwood, Ray L. Atwood & Richard S. Atwood.
Survivors include three children, Sandra and husband Dustin Larson, John and wife, Kimberly Atwood, and Nathan Atwood, all of Joplin; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, and a host of family and cherished friends.
Funeral services are planned for Friday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the Parker Mortuary chapel with Pastor Ralph Reppond officiating. Burial will follow in Osborne Memorial Park. No visitation is planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Haven of Southwest Missouri in care of the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
