Ruth Ella (Tipton) Dorris, age 79 of Purcell, MO passed peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2018 surrounded by her children. She was born on July 30, 1938 in Badger, KS to the Late James Tipton and Ruby (Leonard) Tipton. She married Joseph M. Dorris, Sr. on June 10, 1957, he survives.
Ruth was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all of her heart. She prayed tirelessly for the family that she loved and was selfless in her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love for the Lord made her house a home. She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking hot rolls and cinnamon rolls. She also loved to crochet. But most of all, she loved spreading the Good News of the Gospel through music. She passed the love of music on to her children and together, with her, they ministered to local churches at the “Dorris Family Singers”. Ruth was also a member of the Miami Indian Tribe.
Additional survivors include 7 children, Joseph Dorris, Jr. (Sue) of Neck City, MO, Joel Dorris (Tamara) of Carl Junction, MO, Jody Dorris (Jeanna) of Webb City, MO, Julie Pulsifer (Chris) of Purcell, MO, James Dorris (Kimberly) of Oronogo, MO, Jill Kidwell (Jimmie) of Purcell, MO, and Joshua Dorris (Angela) of Webb City, MO; 42 grandchildren, Alysia Budd (Alex), Michael Dorris, Frankie Dorris, Charity Dorris, Benjamen Dorris (Lesley), Catherine Wammack, Autumn Dorris, Kendra Dorris, Merrigrace Dorris, Brandon Dorris (Christina) Brady Oakes, Jodee Halverston, Tiffany Dorris, Camie Dorris, Kimberlyn Dorris, Nicholas Dorris, Kobe Nixon, Becca Maynard, Hailey Weess, Abbey Pulsifer, Emily Pulsifer, Josiah Pulsifer, Christopher Dorris, Jamie Dorris, Zachary Dorris, Alex Gifford, Lilly Dorris, Ella Dorris, Emma Dorris, Kyren Kidwell (Cheyena), Danyul Kidwell (Felisha), Amber Miester (Taven), Nikole Dorris, and Kadence Dorris; and 36 great-grandchildren, Fallon, Tristan, Gracyn, Adyson, Alivia, Jaiden, Carleigh, Ezekiel, Lincoln, Dillon, Macee, Judah, Adrian, Kobe, Ashlea, Braxton, Sky, Elizabeth, Ethan, Anthony, Nevaeh, Jarred, Jed, Jadence, Zxander, Zoey, Koraline, Maryjane, Braxton, Phoenix, Sarah, Cody, Jaxson, Baby Kidwell, Izakaiya, and Remington; one brother, Wilbur Tipton (Dorothy) Oklahoma City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Paul Tipton, and three sisters, Dorothy Eslinger, Doll Baughman, and Mavis Handshy.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, June 1, 2018 at Spring Grove Apostolic Faith Church, Galena, KS. Joel Dorris will officiate. Burial will be in Purcell Friends Cemetery, Purcell, MO.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm, Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
