Clara E. Lytle, age 99, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018.
She was born November 27, 1918, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to the late Edward Michael and Elizabeth Maria (Shaw) Handka. Clara came to Joplin at the age of 17. In 1944, she married Maurice E. Lytle and they moved to Joplin while Maurice was in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, they made their permanent home in Joplin where she resided for the last 68 years.
Clara was a member of Byers Avenue United Methodist Church of Joplin and United Methodist Women’s Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Crosslines Ministries. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother who would do anything for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice; two brothers, Charles and Edward Handka; and three sisters, Dorothy Ann Galardo, Ethel Blessing and Harriett Sallee.
Survivors include her son, Maurice W. Lytle, and wife, Shirley, of Galena, Kansas; her daughter, Carol E. Ricke, and husband, Tim, of Battlefield, Missouri; two granddaughters, Heather Stenger and husband, Jonathan, and Melissa Krueger, all of Republic, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Olivia Madison Stenger, Brooklyn Elizabeth Stenger, Gavin Lee Krueger, Kaleigh Ann Krueger and Elijah Lytle-Collier; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lytle are 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Clint Lambeth officiating. Burial will follow at Osborne Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Byers Avenue United Methodist Church of Joplin or Central United Methodist Church of Webb City in care of the mortuary.
