Richard L. Madl, 73, of Joplin, and a former St. Paul resident, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at his home.
He was born on March 9, 1945 near Erie to Louis and Marguerite (Whitworth) Madl. He grew up at St. Paul and attended St. Paul schools graduating from St. Paul High School in 1963.
He lived in California briefly and moved back to St. Paul where he worked at Beachner Construction. He then moved to St. Louis where he managed several Sinclair gas stations. He worked in the logging business for most of his career as a buyer and seller. He has lived in the Joplin area for the last 13 years. He was been retired since 2011.
He liked NASCAR, going to casinos, and watching sports especially basketball. He attended St. Francis Catholic Church in his younger years. He and Carolyn “Carol” Soltys were married in 1973. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Richard is survived by two sons, Jason Madl, and his wife, Amanda of Webb City, MO and Tim Madl, and his fiancé, Shelley of Webb City, MO; five grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Madl, and his wife, Maxine of Ketchum, OK and Tom Madl of St. Paul; two sisters, Jeanie Naff, and her husband, Stan of Humboldt and Patty Locke of Mapleton, KS; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Madl of Altamont; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ron Madl.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the St. Francis Cemetery at St. Paul with Father David Michael Htun officiating. Burial will follow.
