Genie Williams

(From Parker Mortuary)

Eugenia Rose "Genie" Williams, age 99 1/2, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Mercy of Joplin.

Genie was born November 23, 1918 in El Reno, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Everett and Josephine Murphy. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in El Reno, and earned her nurse's cap at St. Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. She married Floyd Eugene "Buddy" Williams July 29, 1938, and the couple moved to Joplin in 1941. Buddy passed away in May of 1968, and Genie entered the full-time work force for the first time. With her bright mind, people skills, and work ethic she attained the position of Teller Supervisor at First National Bank of Joplin before retiring in 1983.

Never one to sit idle, she loved to keep a beautiful yard, was a member of several bridge clubs, traveled, and accumulated enough volunteer hours to become a Lifetime Member of St. John's Auxiliary.

She maintained her own home to the age of 95, when she moved to College View Manor. It quickly became a real home, with new friends whom she loved as family.

Her faith was a driving force in her life. She was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and in her younger years was active in Altar Society. For all of this, her family was the main focus of her life, and she was a rich source of love, wisdom, guidance, and joy.

In addition to her parents, and husband Buddy, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kelly and Joseph Murphy.

Survivors include her children, Mary Sue Overbey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Judy Parker and husband Jim of Springfield, Missouri, Mitchell Williams and wife Liz of Magnolia, Texas; grandchildren, Scott Hadley of Tulsa, Steve Hadley of Fairfax, Virginia, Shari Smith and husband Darren of South Lake Tahoe, California, Suzanne Boyd of Tulsa, Wes Parker and wife Gayle, Doug Parker and wife Shilia, Will Parker and wife Rachelle, Kelly Parker and wife Courtney all of Springfield, Cal Williams of Paso Robles, California, Max Williams of Midland, Texas, Eric Williams of Magnolia, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Katie, and Liz Hadley, Lauren, Evan, Ava, Katelyn, and Ella Rose Parker.

Funeral Mass will be Monday, May 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

A Rosary will be recited Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with visitation to follow at the funeral home.

Family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Mercy Hospice.
