Dr. Mark Joseph Lynch, 58, of Joplin, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Freeman Hospital after a sudden illness. He was the Assistant Director of Adult Education for Franklin Technology Center in Joplin, Missouri.
Mark was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, to James Patrick and Rosanna Lynch on December 4, 1959. His family moved to Joplin in the early Sixties where Mark would live the rest of his life. He graduated from Parkwood High School in 1978. He was a lifelong learner and held degrees from Crowder College, Missouri Southern State University, Missouri State University, Pittsburg State University and the University of Arkansas.
Dr. Lynch was known as an inimitable family man, co-worker and supervisor. He loved education and spent the past 17 years as an advocate for vocational education. He served on the Newton County Developmental Disabilities Service Board and previously on the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board. Mark was honored to be one of the residents who submitted the name Mercy Park to the city and to speak at the dedication of the park.
Mark is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lucinda; two sons, William and Daniel and his wife, Stephanie; and two beloved grandsons, James and Samuel, all of Joplin; sisters, Kathleen McCoy of St. Charles, Missouri, and Suzie of Joplin; and a brother, Murray.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Katie; and his younger brother and best friend, James Lynch.
Out of respect for Mark’s wishes, a private burial was held at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Schools Foundation in care of the mortuary.
