Robert Francis Joseph Heitzman, age 81, Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Freeman Hospital from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born on January 13, 1937 in San Francisco, California, the son of Earl and Anne Altstadt Heitzman. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Boxer. He was very proud of his military service. Robert was married to Patricia West for 52 years. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2012. Robert is also preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, William “Cullen” Klien and one great-grandchild, Jaxon Stansill.
Robert worked for CFI Trucking for twenty-five years. He drove a truck and later worked as a dispatcher. Previously, Robert worked as a tool and die maker in California. He enjoyed playing golf. But more than anything, Robert enjoyed being with his family. He was a wonderful father and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include four children, Dale Heitzman and wife Monique of Claremore, Oklahoma, Debra Heitzman of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Micheal Heitzman and wife Tammy, of Joplin and Kimberly Atwood and husband, John, of Joplin; six grandchildren, Camille Eubanks and husband Nick, Erin Burns and husband Marcus, Emily Klien, Robert Michael Heitzman and fiance’ Courtney, Amanda Consolver, Paige Taylor and husband Logan and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial visitation with family and friends is planned for Friday, June 1 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
