Jane Ann Trowbridge Onstot, age 90, of Joplin, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at her home. Jane was born August 1, 1927 in Wichita, Kansas, the eldest of three children to Carl and Lillian Keeley Trowbridge.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Onstot, and brother Carl of Sioux City, Iowa. She is survived by her sister Susan Trowbridge Madison (Pete)of Butte, Montana; sister-in-law, Pat Trowbridge of California; four children, Susan Onstot Steen (Danny) of Independence, Missouri, Jim Onstot (Lori) of Joplin, Missouri, Steve Onstot (Lynn) of Joplin, Sandy Onstot also of Joplin; grandchildren, Blake Onstot (Stephanie) of Joplin, Aaron Steen (Ender) of Seattle, Washington, Shaye Onstot Meissen (Craig) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Callie Onstot of Joplin, Katie Steen of Washington, DC, Sarah Onstot Swearingen (Jerrod) of Oronogo, Missouri, and Monica Onstot; three great grandchildren Abraham Steen, Seattle, Washington, Hayes Earl Onstot, Colorado Springs, and Briar Jane Onstot, Joplin; four nephews and two nieces.
Jane graduated from Classen High School, Wichita, Kansas in 1945, and attended Oklahoma A & M College, (Oklahoma State University) Stillwater, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was employed by Trowbridge Plumbing and Heating Company when she married Jim in Ponca City, Oklahoma, on April 16, 1955. His employment at Continental Oil Company brought them to Joplin. They opened the Onstot Oil Company located on Rangeline in Joplin until 1970, and later started a sporting goods and trophy business, Ozark Athletic Supply, located at 1222 S. Main Street in Joplin where she worked as their bookkeeper until Jim's death in 2013.
Jane was active in the Joplin Jaycees, and supported Joplin Little League and other youth sports as mother, wife and volunteer. She enjoyed reading, playing cards with her friends, and working the daily crossword in The Joplin Globe…in pen! She was a loving and supportive mom and grandma throughout her years, and was happiest when family members gathered for dinners and special events.
She will be missed by all who knew her and especially her family who shares her fun-loving sense of humor and wonderful memories.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor J. P. Hutchinson officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
Her family appreciates Dr. Randy Bowles and his staff as they cared for her these past few years.
