Dianna Green

Dianna Lynn (Ward) Green, age 62 of Galena passed away at 11:15 PM on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO following an illness.

Dianna was born in Joplin, MO on May 19, 1955 to the union of Terrill “Terry” Lorenz Ward and Lois Geraldine (Anderson) Ward.

She was a lifetime resident of Galena, and a proud Bulldog, graduating with the Class of 1973. She spent many years of her working career in Credit Recovery at Galena USD 499, helping students who had fallen behind get the credits they needed to graduate. She also worked the entrance gates at ball games, taking ticket money and passing out programs. She was heavily involved in the Galena United Methodist Church as Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Moment Speaker, and Vacation Bible School Teacher for 35 years. She was also involved in many community organizations including the Girl Scouts (lifetime member), Cub Scout Den Mother, PEO Sisterhood, Camino Church Organization, Rainbow Girls (Worthy Advisor), Experimental Aircraft Association (Member and Newsletter Editor), As a Black Belt in Karate, she trained many young people in the area, and traveled to teach on rape prevention and self-defense. She enjoyed calligraphy and was often asked to complete certificates and other formal letters for her friends. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, visiting museums, camping, and traveling, especially in their “Sister Trips”. She was skilled in trivia, and always had all of the gameshow answers.

Dianna was united in marriage with Norman G. “Bunk” Green at the Galena United Methodist Church on June 15, 1973. He survives.

Additional survivors include her mother, Lois Ward of Galena; one daughter, Krissi Tummons (husband, Jason) of Liberal, MO; one son, Kerry Green (wife, Shawna) of Webb City, MO; one brother, Kelvin Ward (wife, Cindy) of Galena; five sisters, Lynda Thompson (husband, Steve) of Galena, Brenda Mallatt (husband, Dr. Keith Mallatt) of Pittsburg, Lois Kay Spillman (husband, Steve) of Andover, KS, Gaylene Keyser (husband, Hutch Baker) of Galena, and Dr. Starla Meigs (husband, Terence) of Cookeville, TN; as well as 5 grandchildren Gabe, Kylie, Keltyn, Travian, and Jacklyn and many nieces and nephews who concerned her their second mother and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Ward; one niece, Megan Mallatt; and her parents-in-law, Jack and Norma Green.

Funeral Services will be held at the Galena High School Performing Arts Center at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Pastor Dorcia Johnson will officiate. PEO Sisterhood Rites will take place at the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Dianna’s nephews: Kelly Ward, Dr.Kyle Thompson, Clint Ward, Ryan Mallatt, Travis Hart, Bradley Keyser, Bryson Keyser, Zac Spillman, and Ashton Meigs, with one honorary pallbearer, Brandon Keyser.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 6-7:00 PM at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. Memorial Contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the family for use in a future scholarship fund, or to the Galena United Methodist Church.
