Donna Kay (Matthews) Cheek, age 79, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Roaring River Health and Rehabilitation in Cassville.
She was born January 27, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, Missouri the daughter of Kenneth and Aleene (Long) Matthews, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were a brother, Kenneth Matthews and a sister, Charlotte Woodrum.
Donna attended Missouri State University, Drury University and received her Master’s Degree from Arkansas University at Fayetteville. She began her high school classroom teaching career in 1961 and retired thirty-one years later having taught in Vernon County, Missouri and at Southwest in Washburn, Missouri. She continued an affiliation with school by working in the Media Center and A+ Office at Mt. Vernon for sixteen years. She was member of Cassville United Methodist Church and was on the Barry and Lawrence County Library Board.
Surviving are one son, Cary Cheek and his wife Lisa of Cassville, Missouri; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla and a sister-in-law, Sharon Matthews of Carthage, Missouri.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Andy Lambel will conduct the services. Burial will be at Ozark Prairie Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
